Support for Disabled Members & Their Whānau

At The DCS, we offer a welcoming community where disabled adults can build skills, form friendships, and live with greater confidence and independence.

Whether you're looking for supported employment, social connection, or accessible transport, our goal is to walk alongside every member and their family with dignity, respect, and practical support.

Supportive Employment & Community

Join a vibrant community of members involved in meaningful day-to-day activities, including supported employment, life skills, and social connection.
Our team works closely with each member to foster confidence, build capability, and create a sense of belonging, whether that's through packaging work, creative projects, or hands-on help around our facilities.

  • Confidence-building through structured work
  • Individualised support in a safe, inclusive space
  • Friendship, purpose, and real-world contribution

Retail Savvy Training Program & Qualification Pathway

Through our on-site Op Shop, eligible members can take part in our Retail Savvy training program—a 5 to 6-month journey designed to build practical retail skills and confidence in a supportive environment. Trainees commit to a minimum of 6 hours per week in-store across several days. Our experienced staff provide the tools, guidance, and encouragement needed to help each trainee succeed. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will receive a nationally recognised NZQA qualification relevant to the retail industry. Graduates of the initial program may have opportunities to continue along our qualification pathway, potentially working toward advanced qualifications in senior retail management or merchandising.
If you—or a member of your whānau—are interested in this program, we’d love to hear from you. Please note, however, that trainee spaces are limited and a waiting list may apply. However, many of our trainees get started by participating in our workplace employment program. This provides a gentle introduction to workplace expectations, helps build confidence, and strengthens interpersonal skills. If you'd like to learn more about this pathway as well, please reach out

Community Participation

Creating memories, building connections, and sharing life experiences are central to our community participation focus. Throughout the year, we host a variety of events and activities, both onsite and offsite. These range from short, task-based sessions like baking, stretching, singing, dancing, and creative arts to longer afternoon activities such as visits to Potters Park, the local fire station, talent shows, and even our annual on-site disco. We also organise special offsite events including our end-of-year formal lunch, the friends and whānau Christmas picnic in the park, animal encounters at Auckland Zoo, and outings to Ambury Farm.
Our members also take part in wider community initiatives such as the Zero Waste Festival, sustainability projects such as tree planting and community gardening, as well as fundraising events like the iconic Bunnings Sausage Sizzle. To participate in any of these events, all members are required to complete and return a signed consent form.
